“PATTY CLARK has such a subtle way with song. She seems to cherish
every word, every syllable, caressing lyrics with clear enunciation and
intelligence rarely found nowadays.”
-Michael Darvell, a critic reviewing Patty Clark’s recent performance in London. Patricia Larson’s (later changed to Patty Clark) family immigrated to the United States from the same part of Scandinavia as Peggy Lee’s did and settled with their countrymen around Dakota. These two women would intermittently cross paths throughout their career trajectory. At seventeen she was sign by the NBC station in North Dakota, the same
station that hired Peggy Lee some time earlier. The station manager
suggested that she change her name from Patricia Larson to Patty Clark
and Norma Engstrom was asked to do the same and she became Peggy
Lee. Ms. Clark had her own radio and television programs at NBC. Later
she appeared with Bob Hope on four national tours, for a season she was
featured on CBS network TV with Johnny Desmond and Ray McKinley with
the Glenn Miller Orchestra and she also won an Emmy Award for Best
Chicago Singer. |
